Differences between Residence Permit and Permanent Residence

There are many opportunities now to move to Europe or other parts of the globe. However, not everyone understands the conditions under which everything is offered. In some countries, you can quickly obtain the right to permanent residence and subsequently apply for citizenship. In others, you have to wait for several years.

So, not everyone understands the difference between residence permit vs permanent residence. The first one is a permit for temporary residence in the country. It is issued to foreigners for a certain period. It is usually up to two years. The residence permit has to be constantly renewed. Permanent residency is a person’s legal resident status in a country. It is granted only after a residence permit. You usually have to live in the country for at least 5 years.

According to a specialist of the company Immigrant Invest Evgeniya Morozova, it is now quite realistic to get PR in Malta and in other countries of the European Union. It is enough to make an investment of the required size to be able to obtain the documents. This country is always ready to cooperate with investors.

The main differences between PR and RP

The difference between the two concepts is obvious. The temporary one is valid for a certain period of time. For example, a year or two. And the long-term is issued for 5, 10, 20 years.

The difficulty is that different countries have their own rules, jurisdictions and names. Due to this, there is a misunderstanding about how long it is possible to legally stay in the country and under what conditions. So, there are:

    1. Entry visa. Its type depends directly on the size of the investment made, as well as the diplomatic relations established between the countries. In most countries, especially in Europe, it is necessary to stay in the country regularly for a certain period of time in order to obtain a permanent residence. It may be a few months or even years.
    2. Temporary residence. This is the status given to migrants in most countries. A temporary residence permit must be periodically renewed. In addition, in some states, it is more difficult to obtain the right to work with temporary residence. For example, it may be required that the applicant meets certain criteria of age, or professional skills. You will also need to present documents that prove you have a place to live in order to obtain this status. It may be necessary to obtain insurance and undergo a medical examination.

Residence permit is considered less secure than a permanent permit. There is always a risk that it will not be renewed. In such a case, it will be necessary to leave the country. Naturally, any migrant would not want to face such a situation.

Peculiarities of permanent residence in different countries

If you stay in a particular country for several years, you can apply for permanent residence. It is usually enough to live for about 3-8 years in European countries. In some cases, there are also requirements for the stay. For example, you need to stay most of each year in the country. Other popular requirements include:

    1. Availability of real estate. Fortunately, there is no need to buy an expensive house in most countries in order to get the necessary long-term documents. In most cases, you can present a long-term rental agreement. At the same time, in Malta, there is a minimum price ceiling for housing. This means that you can not rent an apartment cheaper than 10000 euros a year.
    2. Proof of source of income. You must prove that you are able to support yourself and your family. These are the differences between PR and RP.
    3. Absence of problems with the law. This is another basic requirement. If something like this happens, it will be difficult to obtain permanent residency.
    4. Knowledge of the local language. This is another important requirement that cannot be ignored.

If these conditions are met, it will be possible to obtain a full right of residence. This is the way to obtain a passport which allows you to fully experience all the features of staying in the country. However, at the beginning, there will be access to medicine, education, and the right to work.

In this way, when choosing a particular investment program, it is necessary to take into account the conditions under which it operates, and whether it is profitable. Island countries provide the most affordable offers. However, not everyone needs a passport of such countries, even considering that you can travel freely almost the entire planet with it.

Having made a comparison of PR and RP, it is possible to note that in both cases, it may be offered favorable conditions. It is only important to study everything beforehand in order to be able to stay in the country legally and enjoy all its benefits. Now such beneficial offers are available in dozens of countries.
