4 Simple Ways To Keep Your Skin Looking Its Best

The skin is the body’s largest organ, yet many neglect it until late in life. The many cosmetic surgeries performed each year tell the story of people who have neglected their skincare until surgical intervention seems the only option.

Skincare must begin early and be maintained consistently for skin to look its best later in life. The good news is that it isn’t difficult or expensive to take care of your skin. Here are a few simple ways to treat your skin well now so it looks good later.

    1. Cleanse Well

You should wash your face twice a day, every day, once in the morning and again at night. Thorough cleaning of the skin will make sure that your complexion remains clear and bright and that pores stay clear of debris. While washing with a gentle cleanser is sufficient in the morning, those that wear makeup may need to take additional measures at the end of the day.

Makeup removers will help to clear away makeup and grease that has accumulated throughout the day. Use a gentle makeup remover before you cleanse, then wash your face as usual. Toners can help take care of any residual impurities and tighten the pores.

A few times a week you can utilize a mask for deep cleaning and an exfoliating scrub to slough away dead skin cells and bring clarity to the skin. It’s best to use an exfoliator that uses natural ingredients and is free of harsh abrasives.

    2. Hydrate Daily

Moisturizers are not just for those with dry skin. All skin needs the nourishment of a good moisturizer. If you love cosmetics, masks and serums can add even more hydration to the skin, but a good moisturizer is a must.

You must hydrate your skin from the inside as well as from the outside. The simple act of drinking sufficient water daily is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep your skin healthy and supple. Most adults should drink at least 64 ounces of water daily, but if you are active you will need even more. Make water your go-to beverage. Staying hydrated has many health benefits beyond good skin.

    3. Sleep Deeply

Few things will affect your overall health more than getting sufficient sleep, and for skin health it is essential. They don’t call it, “beauty sleep” for no reason. Healthline.com reminds us that it is during sleep that the skin repairs itself and replenishes its stores of collagen. They say that even a few days of getting too little sleep will cause visible changes in your face.

Most adults need eight hours of sleep or more to be at their best. You should never get less than seven. Sleep is important enough to your health to make it a priority. Create a sleep schedule and stick to it, even when you’d rather burn the candle at both ends. It is helpful to make the hour before you go to bed relaxing and to avoid the blue light from electronic devices as well. Sleep in a cool room and keep it as dark as possible. Some find blackout curtains or sleep masks helpful.

    4. Use Sunscreen

It is a common misperception that sunscreen only needs to be used if you intend to spend a long time outside on a sunny day. In truth, you need to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun every day. It does not matter whether you will be inside or out, or whether the day is bright or cloudy. Using a moisturizer with sunscreen in it is a simple way to make sure you never forget this important task.

Skincare should begin at a young age and continue throughout your life. These simple steps will support your skin health and ensure that you look your best as you age. When compared with the risks of cosmetic surgery, using a few high-quality products to keep your skin moist and clean, protecting your face from the sun, drinking water and getting good sleep is a small price to pay.
