    1. Sleep Can Build Up Your Immune System

When the body receives the sleep it requires, proteins and immune cells are able to get enough rest to ward off any potential threats – like the flu or colds. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine specialists believe that adequate sleep has the ability to increase the efficacy levels of vaccines, which is a definite plus.

    2. Gaining Sleep Can Assist Prevent Weight Gain

Putting in 8 hours of sleep every day isn’t enough to lose those lbs you want. Alone, it can assist your body from gaining unnecessary weight.  If you don’t receive sufficient sleep, the body gives off a hormone called ghrelin, which boosts appetite. At the same time, the body also reduces the creation of leptin, a hormone that dictates whether or not you’re full. If you mix both these hormones, you’ll get one dangerous combination for snacking. What’s more, when you don’t receive the recommended amount of sleep time, you’ll be more stressed and won’t have the aptitude to ward off junk food cravings. Thinking about it makes it that more exhausting.

    3. Sleep Can Improve Your Heart Health

Not receiving a sufficient amount of sleep can result in health complications such as heart attacks or high blood pressure. The lack of sufficient sleep causes the body to produce a stress hormone called cortisol which prompts your heart to operate harder. Your heart, like the immune system, requires enough rest for it to operate properly and powerfully. Heart health is yet another reason to get proper sleep.

    4. Better Sleep = Better Mood

The old adage, “Waking up on the right side of the bed” has some truth to it. It isn’t a literal expression on which side you get up on, but sleeping well and waking up well-rested can result in good moods. And this makes sense. You’ll definitely feel well-rested when you wake up in the morning after a good night’s rest.  Being well-rested assists your energy levels to be at optimum. When your energy is at its peak, you’ll be better placed to deal with the little challenges that life brings without getting annoyed. When you’re annoyed, chances are that you’ll easily get angry. An angry person is typically not happy. To avoid this, go to sleep early so that you get up feeling rejuvenated. 5. Sleeping Can Increase Productivity

You may be under the presumption that burning the candle at both ends will get you that promotion you’ve always been looking for. However, postponing a night’s rest could have a negative effect at school or at work.  As a matter of fact, sleep has been connected to higher cognitive functionality and improved concentration, both of which have proven to lead to a successful work life. One sleepless night can see you feel fatigued, increasing the chances that you’ll make more errors that a cup of coffee can’t resolve. When most people start feeling tired, they tend to go for that afternoon cup. And although that may look like a good idea to solve the afternoon crash, the additional caffeine in the afternoon may remain in the body and cause you to have yet another restless night.

    6. Not Sleeping Enough Can Be Dangerous. Literally.

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reported that the chances of you getting involved in an auto accident double when you’re driving after 6 to 7 hours of sleep. If you get below 5 hours of sleep time, the likelihood of a crash quadruples. When your brain isn’t well-rested, your reaction time slows down.
