Every business needs hard-working employees to succeed. Without a solid team in place, Scott Crockett of Everest Business Funding says any business would be bound to fail.

Because of how vital employees are to a company’s success, it’s essential to ensure that they’re in a healthy state of mind. Employee morale can be easy to damage and very hard to build back up. That’s why it’s important to keep morale high in the workplace.

Below are some effective ways to substantially improve employee morale.

    Support the Whole Person

Employees today want to feel as if the company they work for supports them, which applies to their lives inside and outside the workplace. It’s incumbent on businesses nowadays to help employees achieve a healthy work-life balance.

One simple example is providing a good number of PTO days for employees and then actually encouraging rather than discouraging them from taking time off. Many employees will be taken aback in a good way when their managers want them to take time away from work.

    Recognize Small Accomplishments

It’s common for businesses to reward big accomplishments and goals that employees achieve. But, if you want to improve employee morale and keep it high, it’s a good idea to recognize even the smallest accomplishments.

Effective managers will help employees set mini goals to accomplish the one big end goal. A great way to boost employee morale is to celebrate each of those mini-goals once they’ve been met.

In addition, companies can surprise employees with company-wide recognition distributed via a regular company newsletter or other forms of communication.

    Communicate a Lot

When employees feel connected, they feel appreciated and valued. In turn, this leads to high employee morale. Business leaders can ensure this happens by communicating with their employees a lot.

Communication between higher-ups and their employees shouldn’t just occur irregularly or at scheduled meetings. It should happen throughout the workweek as a “check-in” just to see how things are going.

You can take this principle to the next level by making some of your communication about items that aren’t related to work. Asking people how they are feeling and figuring out what makes them tick goes a long way in making employees feel valued.

    Offer Growth Opportunities

No one wants to feel stuck in a dead-end job, and most employees with career aspirations would rather stick with their current company than look for a new opportunity elsewhere.

Scott Crockett says that by offering growth opportunities to employees, businesses can help improve employee morale and increase overall productivity.

These growth opportunities don’t have to just be the ability to take on a “bigger and better” role, though that’s important, too. It should also include career development initiatives such as training, educational programs, shadowing opportunities, and mentorships.

When you show employees that you care about their long-term careers by investing in their growth, you’re making them happy and giving them reasons to want to stay.
