Laser hair removal is a technique that allows the removal of unwanted hair on the face and body utilizing devices that act on the hair bulb. The permanent body hair removal treatment is safe and will enable you to get rid of the fluff for an extended period. Thanks to specific wavelengths for different skin types, the laser emits a light beam that heats the hair shaft and its root. The final purpose is to cause, session after session, a progressive thinning and thinning of the hair, enormously slowing down its regrowth and making it visible to the naked eye.

This type of surgery, particularly recommended for those tired of frequently resorting to waxing, razors, and various other hair removal methods, especially when treating delicate areas such as groin, armpits, mustache eyebrows. Laser hair removal is indicated for people suffering from pathologies related to the hair bulb, which can exacerbate just by continually shaving.

Laser hair removal, done in certified beauty salons or doctors’ offices. Depending on the area to be treated, several sessions are required, scheduled monthly or bimonthly.

Laser hair removal: how does it work?

Unlike classic hair removal techniques, which remove only the hair’s apical part, laser hair removal allows you to remove it in its entirety, including the hair bulb. If the surgery, done correctly, the skin around the follicle remains unaffected.

Laser hair removal has several advantages: in addition to being painless, it promotes a reduction in the quantity and diameter of the hairs and slow, if not nonexistent, regrowth thanks to eliminating the hair bulb.

    How many sessions are needed?

The number of sessions varies according to individual cases and the area to be treated with laser hair removal. Usually, several appointments are required, established on a monthly or bimonthly basis. Individual results depend, in fact, on several factors, including age, skin type, hair characteristics, and hormonal structure.

If you want to remove unwanted facial hair with laser hair removal, 4 to 6 sessions may be enough. In the case of large surfaces of the body, such as arms or legs, approximately 5-10 treatments are required. In general, there are 4-6 weeks between one session and another.

The results obtained with laser hair removal are long-lasting, especially if maintenance sessions, repeated once or twice a year.

    When to do the sessions?

    • The laser hair removal sessions should be performed at least 30–40 days before sun exposure, as they can predispose to the formation of dark skin spots on the treated area.
    • If laser hair removal, performed on tanned skin, on the other hand, hypopigmentation can occur as a result of damage to the melanin.

For this reason, it is best to undergo the treatment in the periods away from summer or, generally, when there is the certainty of not getting a tan.

If hyper pigmented spots appear on the skin, creams based on hydroquinone and retinoic acid can be used, which usually solve the problem. There is, however, no specific therapy for light spots, which tend to resolve. Laser hair removal, not indicated in oral therapies with high-dose corticosteroids, antibiotics, hormone replacement treatments, and immunosuppressive drugs. Other photosensitizers: the risk is to cause the onset of skin spots or produce only a temporary effect of hair loss. On the treated areas exposed to sunlight – such as, for example, the face – it is advisable to use a filter with high protection, even in winter. Every subject has both good and bad sides. Anything should be done, considering the good and bad aspects. Learn about the pros and cons of any topic and then work on it. Hair removal also has its advantages and disadvantages. Make a decision knowing and understanding everything well.
