Although you might not think it will make much difference, if you become more environmentally friendlythe impact could be massive (especially if everyone couldcontribute by making some small changes on an individual level). Below are some of the ways you can reduce your carbon footprint and help make the world a better place at the same time.

    Cut Back on Single-Use Plastic

Plastic is something that is widely used all over the world, but the way in which it is made greatly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. This is affecting global climate. The issue of waste is also a major consideration, with plastic polluting both land and oceans. Plastic is blocking sewers and drains and is finding its way into the stomachs of marine life and, ultimately, to our plates. To cut back on single-use plastic, consider reusable water bottles, replacing plastic carrier bags with tote bags, and buying loose fruit and vegetables rather than those packaged in plastic.

    Reduce Vehicle Usage

Reducing the amount of time that you spend in the car can be a fantastic way to do your bit for the environment. Why not invest in some lightweight bikes for the whole family, which can be used for the commute to work and school? According to the folk at Woom, lightweight bikes will not only reduce your carbon footprint, but they will also help you get fitter and healthier, making it a win-win.

Introduce Smart Features into Your Home

There is much you can do in the home to become more environmentally friendly. For example, you could replace some of your older energy guzzling appliances with newer, smarter appliances that will use far less energy. Smart lightbulbs can also be a good move as they can be controlled from devices such as Google Home and Alexa. Reducing your thermostat is also a terrific way to reduce energy consumption. Getting into the habit of layering up with clothing rather than having the heating on high will not only reduce your energy usage but it will also save you money.

    Consider Having Some Vegetarian Days

While no one is suggesting you become a vegan, it is better for your health and the planet if you eat less meat and more vegetables. A plant-based diet for even one or two days each week will help the environment too. Meat farming fuels climate change and pollutes waterways and landscapes. If everyone cut down on their meat (especially pork and beef) consumption by just a little, it would have a positive impact on climate change.

    Grow Your Own Vegetables

If you have space outside, you could consider a vegetable garden. Growing your own food is a great way to help the environment. You will be using food that has not had to be transported miles to get to you and that has been grown without the use of pesticides. Furthermore, your own vegetables will be much tastier than anything you can get in the grocery store.

    Recycle

If you don’t already recycle, then you should definitely do so to reduce your carbon footprint. The more we recycle, the less waste ends up in landfill, thus reducing pollution and saving energy. Things like paper, aluminum, glass, plastic, and metal can all be recycled and reused to make a variety of products.

    Conclusion

Don’t assume that doing your bit for the environment is pointless because you are just one person. If everyone does their bit, we can all make the world a better place for our children and our children’s children. There are so many little things that each of us can do to have a positive impact on the environment.
