While weaves offer incredible benefits to the wearer such as protecting hair and a lot of versatility, you shouldn’t neglect your natural hair while wearing one. Taking proper care of your hair when wearing a weave will protect your natural hair.

One of the best things about hair weaves is that anybody can wear them and still have healthy hair. You just have to pamper your natural hair. In this article, we give you some of the incredible tips to maintain your hair while wearing a weave. These tips include:

    1.Regular cleansing

Even when you are wearing a weave, your hair and scalp still need regular cleaning. Thanks to the new product innovations in the hair industry, there are products specifically made to make it easy to dispense products to the scalp without much hassle. For instance, you can use a nozzle to cleanse your scalp and hair.

    2.Shampooing

You should wash and condition your weave regularly [at least once every three weeks]. This will help ensure that your scalp is as healthy as possible and it will also reduce the buildup of product used for styling the weave. To cleanse your scalp and hair, concentrate the shampoo on your scalp and thoroughly massage it in using your fingertips.

    3.Conditioning

Just because your hair is protected under a weave, it doesn’t mean that you should skip the conditioner. Conditioning will make it easier to detangle your weave and keep the hair underneath well hydrated. Rinse your hair thoroughly to ensure that the conditioner is rinsed away.

    4.Apply oil to your scalp

Your hair and scalp still need nourishment even if you are wearing a weave. You can achieve this by applying oil to both your scalp and hair. Take some oil onto your hands and massage them in your scalp and hair. However, make sure that you use oils that are compatible with your skin type to avoid clogging the pores of your scalp.

    5.Detangle the weave

Detangling your unice hair each night can help you protect your wig and increase its lifespan. It is also advisable to sleep under a satin scarf to prevent the weave from tangling.

6.Make sure the weave is not too tight

One of the most common mistakes women make when it comes to human hair bundles is wearing them too tight. If your weave is too tight, it puts a lot of tension on hair follicles, which can make your hair fall out. Or worse, it can contribute to permanent hair loss, especially among African-American women.

Your weave shouldn’t cause headaches or be painful. If it does, then it is too snug. If you feel that your weave is too tight, talk to the stylist to loosen them before he or she continues with sewing in.

    7.Remove the weave as recommended

Another common mistake women do when it comes to weaves is wearing them for longer than required. When worn for too long, weaves can start to lose their luster, or worse, your hair can end up mattering. It is recommended to remove your weave after eight weeks. But you may be tempted to go past eight weeks if your hair still looks good. However, keep in mind that hair’s health is more important than the look.

    8.Give your hair a break

Finally, it is advisable to give your hair a break. This can allow your hair to breathe and stay moisturized. Forgo weaves for a few weeks. Switch to hairstyles that put less tension on your hair. Then you can install your weave back into healthy hair.
