Just like with poly skin, it’s certainly possible for your lace hair system for men to get damaged whether it’s during normal wear and tear, a bump or mistake that you made. This can result in a tear or hole in the lace base material.
But fear not. This blog will provide a quick and easy guide on how to repair minor tears or holes in your lace base.
Supplies
- Styrofoam head
- Pins
- Hair system tape (preferably extended wear)
- Clear, plastic medical tape
- Acetone or nail polish remover
- A paper towel
- Knot sealer
- Scissors
Note
Before following these steps, keep in mind that this guide is only for repairing small tears or holes in lace bases. It is important that your base is cleaned and dried before undergoing this method.
Step 1: Secure your hair system
With your base’s underside facing up, pin your lace system to a styrofoam head. To the best of your ability, smooth and flatten the affected area with your hands. Once that’s done, take your acetone or nail polish remover and clean the area using a paper towel.
Once the area is cleaned, apply a layer of knot sealer on it to strengthen the lace. Let it dry for around five minutes before proceeding to the next step. Note: If your hair system hair is in the way of the affected area, tape it to the styrofoam head using the clear medical tape.
Step 2: Apply the bonding tape
Now it’s time to apply some bonding tape over the area. Make sure it’s wig tape that is designed for extended wear such as Extendabond or Ultra Hold tape. Also make sure the tape is larger than the affected area.
Once applied, press firmly into the lace and remove any paper backing.
Step 3: Apply the clear tape
Now, you will need your other tape in the form of the clear, medical tape. Cut a similar-sized piece of tape that you cut for the bonding tape and place it on top. Press it into place.
Step 4: Attach your hair system
Once the previous step is complete, you’re pretty much done! If the patch is in an area where you normally apply adhesive, you can apply tape or glue over it.

Conclusion
If you require a new attachment of your fixed lace hair system afterwards, remove the tape patch and clean your base. Then follow the steps above and apply a new patch.
Please keep in mind that this is only a temporary solution for your lace toupee if you have no other backup system. It is heavily recommended to order a new hair system while you make do with your fixed lace hair system.
