It’s no secret that many people find that undergoing psychological analysis helps in many ways. While the goals of therapy are varied, the ultimate one is to aid patients to move on go better lives. When it comes to Jungian analysts and the foundational concept of individuation, the healthcare professional will seek to aid the patient in several ways. Here are some examples of what may be included in the patient’s therapy.

    Uncover Repressed Memories

Part of this school of psychology focuses on gaining a better understanding and connection with the sub-conscious or the unconscious. This improved relationship may involve uncovering events that occurred in years past that were repressed for some reason. The goal is to bring them to the surface so they can be considered and resolved in ways that did not happen before.

The point of this part of the therapy is to release the hold that those repressed memories have on the person today. They may be the underlying cause of ongoing depression, anxiety, phobias, and other emotional illnesses that are plaguing the patient. Once they are remembered and defused, the patient is likely to begin healing from those illnesses.

Cultivate a More Balanced Awareness of Self

Becoming a whole person in mind as well as body is part of the goal. Those who have ongoing issues with self-esteem, a lack of faith in their abilities, or otherwise feel as if they are less than others will find that analysis can help a great deal. As the therapy continues, they begin to have a more balanced sense of self.

The same is true for those who suffer with personality disorders that leave them with inflated views of themselves. In this instance, the goal is to reach a balance that helps to temper egotistic predilections and become more aware of all aspects of the person’s being. This balance can pave the way for improved relationships as well as relating to the world in general with greater ease.

Aid in Understanding the Innate Ability to Deal With Difficulties

There are times when just about everyone feels overwhelmed by circumstances that are beyond their control. Many people work through the distress and find ways to cope. Others may have a more difficult time dealing with traumatic events and need help to process, mourn, and finally deal with the new set of circumstances.

In this instance, the goal of Jungian analysts focuses on the recognized elements that have led to the sense of being able to process and deal with difficulties. With the aid of the therapist, the patient gains perspective and begins to move past the trauma. The result can be recapturing a sense of self that was temporarily lost.

Putting the Past in Perspective and Looking Toward the Future

Everyone has a past. Sometimes the events were positive while other events left deep scars. When those past events continue to influence the present in ways that interfere with living, the future doesn’t seem all that bright.

The analysis will involve seeking to put the past into perspective. This can mean acknowledging what took place, assessing the impact, identifying any lessons learned, and finally letting the past go. That does more than ease emotional burdens on the present; it also paves the way for embracing the future with less fear or worries that past events will repeat themselves.

Whatever may be troubling you, consider the idea of seeking analysis. What you learn about yourself and the coping skills that emerge from the therapy could make all the difference to your overall quality of life.
